Perry is a Chicago native, she was born into Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. On the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as as seen through flashback) her mother portrayed Jackie Harris in two of Perry's initial TV roles. But her parents would not let her perform until she reached the age of adulthood due to the impact stress might affect their child. Perry acknowledged that she was not confident in her acting during high school. However, she began performing as a means to connect with new people at Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. Perry left for New York, where she landed small roles in series like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. The feeling of homesickness caused Perry back to California and theater roles were readily available. The Other Place was performed by her mother and her on Broadway in 2013. Perry was in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie and Kevin McKidd. This was performed in the West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. Perry played nine roles in the ABC film The Family, in 2016. In 2017, she played a recurring role on her own ABC political thriller Scandal starring her father. The actress also portrayed the young Mary Cooper in Young Sheldon - which is a CBS spin-off of The Big Bang Theory. The part was offered to her through audition, regardless of the fact that she was a cousin with the role.
